About
Gamblers follow certain etiquette and gestures at a Blackjack table. Players use different gestures to convey messages to the Dealer. These gestures are not blacklisted by casinos, for they are not related to card counting. Rather, these gestures are used to let the Dealer know what is it that you want to do. Knowing this etiquette and these gestures will definitely not increase your odds at winning, but for sure they would make you feel much comfortable when you play at a Blackjack table. Of course, much of this is when you play at land-based casinos. However there are many a Blackjack player who first play online and then visit a land casino. So even if you are an online player, it will help you know how to behave when I visit a land casino.
May I Join In?
It sounds polite, doesn’t it? How would you feel if other players just barge in and start placing bets when you’re at a Blackjack table playing with your close group of friends? Be courteous and ask other players at the table before you join in.
Buying Chips
You can buy chips from the Blackjack Dealer. You cannot just hand your cash over to the Dealer. It’s for the security purposes. You should place your cash beyond the area where you place your bet. The Dealer would pick it up and hand you the chips equal to your cash.
Placing your Bet
The areas where you can place your bets are clearly marked on a Blackjack table. Place your bet in stacks of chips in the designated area only.
Once more thing, it’s considered foolish to play with the stack of chips once the cards are dealt. Avoid being the center of attraction in this regard.
Cutting the Deck
Sometimes the Dealer shuffles the deck of cards and asks a player to cut it. If you get that chance, simply take the plastic card and place it somewhere in the deck.
Hand Gestures
Use permitted hand gestures to convey your message to the Dealer. For example, to stand, wave your hand back and forth over your cards.
To signal the Dealer for a hit, just point at your cards.
To double down your bet, place additional bet beside your initial. Avoid placing additional bet on top of the initial bet. Raise your hand and hold one finger up. (Avoid the middle finger though!) The Dealer would interpret the signal that you want to double down.
Raise your hand and hold two fingers up if you want to split a pair.
Next time you hit a casino, use these etiquettes and gestures to have a “been there before” feeling. Once you know these etiquettes and gestures, you will a lot comfortable at a Blackjack table.
